2015: Trobec's Bus Year In Review

December 29, 2015

Here we are. Another year in the books. As 2015 comes to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on everything that has happened over the past 365 days. 2015 was a good year for us here at Trobec’s and we hope it was a good year for you as well. As we enter our 78th year in the busing industry, we continue to be extremely appreciative of all our customers, old and new. That is why we would like to share with you some of our proudest achievements from the past year to show why we love doing what we do.

Honoring Lifelong Employees

In January, we had a very special day at Trobec's. We honored five employees for their lifelong dedication to the company. These wonderful folks have been with Trobec's for over 40 years and it has been a pleasure to work alongside them. We are so very grateful for everything they have done for us over the years and we want to thank them, along with all of our employees, for their hard work. Pictured below (with our CEO, Betty Jeanne Trobec, and General Manager, Tim Schubert) and the number of years they've been with Trobec's are:

Norb Walz: 40 years
Larry Smoley: 43 years
Patty Schuneman: 45 years

Bob Mertes: 43 years

Don Supan: 50 years

Minnesota Special Education Driver of the Year

Getting your kids to and from school as safely as possible is something we pride ourselves in doing. For that very reason, we are honored to have Jim Thomas as a school bus driver on our staff. In June, Jim was named the Minnesota Special Education Driver of the Year by the Minnesota Association of Pupil Transportation.

The look of surprise on Jim's face when he received the award was priceless. “[Winning the award] means you’re appreciated, and all of these bus drivers should be appreciated — it’s a profession where you’re bringing to and from school our future,” Jim said after receiving the honor. He added, "I'm very humbled, it means a lot to me." We are extremely proud of the work Jim does on a daily basis and we couldn’t be happier for him for receiving this award.

MSBOA Transportation Specialist Award

The Minnesota School Bus Operators Association (MSBOA) handed out its Transportation Specialist Awards during its annual summer conference in June. We had the privilege of being there to see our head mechanic, Andy Skwira, receive this fantastic award. This achievement goes to those who go above and beyond in student transportation and is judged by the Minnesota Office of Pupil Transportation. Some of the criteria that went into judging applications included dedication to safety, community service achievements, years of service and letters of recommendation. Congratulations, Andy! We're very proud of you.

We Got a New Motorcoach

Last but not least, we got a new motorcoach. A 2016 MCI J4500 to be exact. We thought we would throw this on the list because we're very excited for our customers to see it in action. More on this later. We will have a separate blog post that will go into more detail about the new bus. Below you can get a quick peek at it.

We hope you've enjoyed taking a look behind the scenes of our 2015. We can't wait to see what 2016 has in store. We wish you a Happy New Year and safe travels!
